Hyderabad is the second largest city in the country, next only to the national capital, New Delhi along with NCR. The new urban agglomeration, sprawls across 625 square kilometer with a population of 6.7 million. Until now Hyderabad had a population of 5.5 million living in an area of 259 square kilometer. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is the new governing body constituted for newly created Greater Hyderabad.

Besides launching it into the league of the fastest growing metros in the country, the establishment of Greater Hyderabad will facilitate improved and high standard of civic services, provide better civic administrative mechanism, and ensure better planning and focused development of the mega city. The infrastructural developments happening in the city include:

Shamshabad International Airport: Spread in an area of 5500 acres, Rajiv Gandhi International airport is located 22 kilometers from the city. It will be operational by 2008 and completed by 2026. Built on public-private partnership, it will handle 12million passengers every year.

Outer Ring Road: The 163 kilometers long ORR is a multilane express highway that will not only link the upcoming international airport with Gachibowli, High-tech City and the financial district, but create orbital linkage to 32 radial roads as well.

P V Narasimha Rao Express Highway: This Super Corridor eases the international Airport bound tragic on the fast lanes of the ORR. On completion, it will be the longest flyover in the country, measuring 11.63 kilometers

SEZ & IT Parks:

Calibre SEZ for IT and ITES sectors is being established with the coordination of the Dept. of IT&C, in over 125acres at Kokapet, near the financial district.

Pentagon, an IT and commercial hub suitable for IT/ITES companies, MNCs and large corporates, is coming at Poppalguda near Gachibowli in a 200 acres’ layout.

Giga City, IT and knowledge destination spread over 2000 acres at Jawahar Nagar near Secunderabad Cantonment will have corporate commercial, educational & residential zones.

Hotel and Health Corridor:


150 acres at Shamshabad,
next to the International Airport have been earmarked for Regal Broadway, an exclusive corridor for star and budget hotels.

200 acres at Ameenpur, have been identified for Elixir City , which will house medical institutes of global standards, as part of the State Government’s efforts t make the City the hub of medical tourism.

The retail sector is witnessing soaring demand for quality space. Banjara Hills and Jubilee hills are considered to be the up market shopping destinations. Hyderabad currently has 6 operational malls with total area of 1.5 million square feet..

The developments in the city have intensified the demand for commercial and residential space outlook of Hyderabad. The city is expanding rapidly with concentration in the south and south eastern sides. Kondpaur, Gachibowli, Shamshabad, Hitech, Miyapur, Nizampet and Kukatpally are the upcoming areas to bet on.
