Rajpura is a municipal council in Patiala located 50 kilometers South East of Chandigarh. Patiala is the educational hub of Punjab. Punjabi University, Government medical college, Thapar Institute of Engineering and college, Mahindra College, M. M Modi College are some renowned educational institutions in the city.

Rajpura is situated on the National Highway No. 1 which has been stretched from Kolkatta to Amritsar. Rajpura can be regarded as 'Gateway of Punjab' as all road and rail transport needs to touch Rajpura for the routes going to other major cities of Punjab as well as Jammu & Kashmir. The city has well developed roads and a container freight station is also planned in the city giving it the required boost. Formal approvals have been received for 2 SEZ in Rajpura: a 772.5-crore Vividha Infrastructure (P) Ltd and Rs 897.5-crore Mridul Infrastructure (P) Ltd Special Economic Zone. Mega housing and infrastructure projects are being undertaken with Parsvanath in lead with its King Citi project.
