Moradabad is situated at a distance of 167 kilometer from the national capital, New Delhi, on the banks of the Ramganga River (a tributary of the Ganges). The city is famous for its huge export of brass handicrafts to North America, Europe and all over the world, and is also thus called "Brass City" or Peetal Nagri (in the local language).The city has the distinction of being the biggest exporter of handicrafts in the country. It has close to one million citizens of various ethnicities and religions.

Moradabad is renowned for its brass work and has carved a niche for itself in the handicraft industry throughout the world. The modern, attractive, and artistic brass ware, jewelry and trophies made by skilled artisans are the main crafts. The attractive brass ware is exported to countries like USA, Britain, Canada, Germany and Middle East Asia. There are about 600 export units and 5000 industries in the district. Moradabad exports goods worth Rs. 2200 crore every year.
