Mysore is expected to emerge as an extension of Bangalore. “The city of palaces” is set to absorb a sizeable chunk of the new labor force in the knowledge industry led by the Information Technology and the Biotechnology sector. This has led many investors to eye the city's property market.
Developments in the city:
- Six-lane expressway between Bangalore and Mysore, the project includes a massive real estate development plan including 7 townships.
- Up gradation of the Mysore Airport to launch Boeing and Airbus services to the rest of the country by December 2008.
- Major roads in the city are being four-laned and a new outer ring road will be built.
- Proposal for MRTS/Metro along the peripheral road, outer ring road and radial roads is underway.
- Infosys has been allotted 315.60 acres of land where a world class Global Education Centre and Infosys Leadership Institute covering an area of 218 acres is built. The remaining has been allotted for green belt and a SEZ.
The residential area is estimated to be about 6,000 hectares in the proposed land use pattern by 2011. This represents an increase of almost 114% over 2,800 hectares in the land use pattern for 2001.
The emergence of the IT sector and an increase in migrant population is seen as significant potential for retailers. Mysore’s retail market front is responding to the growing consumer base with major players have already entered the fray.
